Inside Museveni’s visit to Bukedi for PDM assessment
He also proposed the establishment of feed-chopping machines at the sub-county level to help farmers access affordable animal feed
Kibuku: During a tour to assess the impact of the Parish Development Model (PDM) in the Bukedi Subregion, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni praised Ms. Florence Nabutono from Bukoda Cell, Kasasira Town Council, Kibuku District, for her remarkable journey in wealth creation.
Ms. Nabutono, an LC1 Chairperson and a model farmer, has transformed her homestead through her entrepreneurial efforts, setting an example of self-driven development.
President Museveni commended Ms. Nabutono’s dedication and the development of her farm, which she started with just 1 million Ugandan shillings from her Parish PDM SACCO.
With this initial investment, she purchased a pig, which soon multiplied, allowing her to pay her children’s school fees and diversify her farming operations by adding poultry.
He emphasized the power of practical effort and self-reliance in combating poverty, stating that poverty in Uganda is largely a result of ignorance, as the country is rich in resources.
“You have shown how one million Ugandan shillings can create a positive impact. I’m glad you have woken up and taken advantage of the government’s advice and support,” Museveni said, highlighting how Ms. Nabutono had effectively used the funds to improve her farm and family life.
Impressed by her success, the President gifted Ms. Nabutono an additional 10 million Ugandan shillings to expand her farming business. He advised her to invest in dairy cows, which would provide a steady income through milk production, and to improve her piggery infrastructure by adding a roof to the pigsty.
Museveni emphasized that Ms. Nabutono’s example should inspire others to embrace wealth creation principles, noting that the government’s support is available for those willing to put in the effort.
He also proposed the establishment of feed-chopping machines at the sub-county level to help farmers access affordable animal feed, directing Vice President Jessica Alupo to identify a suitable location for the facility.
Ms. Nabutono expressed gratitude to the President for the support and shared how the PDM had empowered her to uplift her family. She also highlighted the challenge of securing animal feeds, which continues to hinder many farmers’ progress.
The event was attended by Vice President Jessica Alupo, ministers, Members of Parliament, and local leaders, all of whom applauded Ms. Nabutono’s success story as a testament to the transformative potential of the Parish Development Model.
