Hoima police impound vehicles used in cattle theft
The police have vowed to intensify patrols and surveillance to dismantle the networks involved in livestock theft and ensure justice for affected farmers.
Hoima: Police in the Albertine South region have impounded four vehicles suspected to have been used in recent cattle theft operations across the area.
According to Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine South Region Police spokesperson, the thieves have been disguising their activities by using high-end vehicles such as Pajeros, Prados, and Toyota Land Cruisers (TX), making it difficult for residents to suspect criminal activity.
The impounded vehicles include; Toyota Land Cruiser TX with registration number UAX 736K, Pajero with registration number UA 070A, Toyota Spacio with registration number UAY 953L and Toyota Premio with registration number.
Hakiza has issued a public warning, urging communities to remain alert to the presence of executive-type vehicles in their areas.
“In case the community sees these executive-type vehicles in their areas, we caution them against assuming they belong to wealthy individuals. Instead, we urge them to notify the police if they notice anything suspicious,” Hakiza said.
He also called on individuals who have lost cattle and previously reported the cases to police to visit the regional police offices.
“Those who have lost their animals should report to the police and check with our regional offices. These animals are currently in our custody,” he added.
Hakiza further noted that the police have deployed motorcycle patrol units across the region to quickly respond to incidents of cattle theft. He revealed that some of the criminals are working in collaboration with local butchers, who help them sell the stolen livestock.
The police have vowed to intensify patrols and surveillance to dismantle the networks involved in livestock theft and ensure justice for affected farmers.
