Hoima City launches first-ever PET waste collection centre to tackle plastic pollution
“It is everyone's responsibility to keep our city clean. Let us collect plastics and turn them into income,” she added.

Hoima: In a landmark initiative to promote environmental conservation and improve plastic waste management, Crown Beverages Limited, in partnership with Reclaim Company, has launched Hoima City’s first PET Waste Collection Centre.
The new facility, located in the Kiryatete Industrial Centre behind Hoima Government Prisons, is managed by Reclaim Company and is expected to significantly boost efforts to maintain a cleaner, greener Hoima.
Speaking at the official launch on Friday, Sylvia Nalumaga Balyesiima, the City Deputy Mayor, welcomed the initiative, highlighting its potential to reduce crime by creating alternative employment opportunities.
“This centre will not only support the city’s campaign to keep Hoima clean but also provide a source of income for both city cleaners and residents who collect and sell plastics,” said Nalumaga.
“It is everyone’s responsibility to keep our city clean. Let us collect plastics and turn them into income,” she added.
Rogers Anguzu, the Commercial Manager at Crown Beverages Limited, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
“Some of our products come in plastic packaging, and this initiative demonstrates our dedication to reducing plastic pollution. Our goal is to see fewer virgin plastics in the environment,” Anguzu stated.
To support the operations of the centre, Crown Beverages has donated a bailer machine to compress plastics for efficient transport, and a tricycle motorcycle to help collect waste from surrounding areas.
Zirubabel Kwebiiha Junior, CEO of Reclaim, explained that the centre will serve as a regional hub for plastic waste, where collected plastics will be compressed into bales before being transported to Kampala for recycling.
“We urge the public not to litter but to bring plastics to our centre and get paid. This is not just about recycling it’s about building a cleaner and growing city,” Kwebiiha emphasized.
The partnership between Crown Beverages and Reclaim represents a proactive approach to environmental challenges, while also empowering locals to turn waste into economic opportunity.
