Hoima blood bank in the final stages of completion

Hoima: The newly constructed Hoima regional referral blood bank, a 2.9 billion shillings investment facility, enters its final stages of preparations, and an outbreak of activity unfolds.
This was revealed on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, by Badru Mugabi, the Resident City Commissioner, Hoima, while monitoring government projects in the city.
Dr. Ibrahim Bwaga, the Hoima regional referral hospital director, explained that the blood bank at Kasingo will help improve service delivery and provide blood and blood products in the region.
Dr. Bwaga reveals that previously all tests were being done at the Nakasero blood bank in Kampala, and the region would donate a lot of blood but later receive less than they donated.
He says with this blood bank all such challenges will be eliminated, and currently specialists are busy installing equipment, thoroughly testing, and standardizing each machine together with energy supply sources to ensure the utmost precision because blood is being kept in a strict kind of environment.
The health expert adds that all these need to be tested before they can say they have a functioning blood bank, thus urging the general public to always cooperate and donate blood once called upon.
Speaking during the monitoring, Badru Mugabi, the Hoima RCC, disclosed that the 2.9 billion government investment will now enable the region to process its own blood and blood products, which will later be distributed within the region and beyond.
Mugabi stressed that they will now increase the drive to look for blood. He adds that the regional blood bank structure has met all the international standards and also the requirements as stipulated in the bill of quantity.
Mugabi says all sites have what they call a defect liability period, so there is no need to worry about shoddy work, adding that the workmanship, speed, and time of construction were up to their certification and clear value for money.
