Lamwo: The government of Uganda, through the Ministry for Water and Environment, commissioned a 450-million-shilling water project in Ngomoromo Parish, Lokung Subcounty, Lamwo district, on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.
According to Dr. Itwo Isaiah, a water sociologist with the Ministry for Water and Environment, the project has been funded by the African Development Bank in partnership with the Government of Uganda and includes 21 heavy solar panels, a borehole pump, an irrigation system, and a 32,000-liter water reservoir.
He added that the project aims to provide safe and clean water to the local community.
The Lamwo district deputy CAO, Mr. Odoch Richard Poromoi, noted a gap in the land agreement where the landowner asked for compensation, despite there being no budget allocated for it.
He pledged the sub county and district leadership’s commitment to engaging with the landowner to settle the matter.
Mr. Poromoi also encouraged the community to embrace the use of safe and clean water and tasked the water management committee with expanding the water supply based on community demand.
Oceng Geoffrey Osborne, the Lamwo district RDC who officiated the project commissioning, asked the community of Ngomoromo in Lokung Subcounty to take ownership of the water project and ensure the maintenance and security of all its equipment.
He also urged the Ministry for Water and Environment to involve the district leadership during the inception of such projects to address issues related to land donation and acquisition processes.
