Rukungiri: The founder of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) party and former presidential candidate in the 2021 general elections, Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Mugisha Muntu, has revealed that he fell out with his former boss, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, because he went off track.
Muntu, while appearing in the Ihanga ryeitu program hosted by Moses Mweeza Bagwagye on Country Radio in Rukungiri district recently, said that some people with whom they went to the bush during the liberation struggle swayed off their intentions after taking over power in 1986.
He said he could not keep hobnobbing with the regime that had started making mistakes but was not willing to understand and accept them.
Muntu further indicated that, besides this kind of hypocrisy, the scrapping of term limits in the constitution (2005) widened the gap between him and his former master president, Museveni.
On the issue of corruption, Gen. Muntu, who is also the former army commander, said that the current leaders have looted the national resources, something he says has left many citizens in abject poverty.
He noted that corruption, mostly among the bigwigs of the government that are deemed untouchable, has eaten up the country like cancer.
Muntu said that Uganda currently needs leaders who believe in transparency and are not greedy.
Muntu is in Western Uganda, meeting leaders of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) from different counties.
