Four arrested over theft of Serere school computers
The investigation team shall continue to monitor all leads into the disappearance of these computers to ensure the culprits are brought to book.
Serere: The territorial police of East Kyoga Regional Command have arrested four people in connection with the theft of 25 computers belonging to Kagwara Seed Secondary School in Serere district.
The four suspects were identified as Muhammed Gule, Ronald Eseso, David Opio, and Michael Okiror.
On February 14, 2023, the school cleaner noticed that the door of the computer laboratory was tampered with and realized that 25 computers had been stolen.
Oscar Gerigory Ageca, the East Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the matter on Friday during a press briefing.
He, however, noted that only CPUs and monitors were taken; the keyboards were all left behind, and the school laboratory was broken into on the night of Friday, December 8, 2023.
“Police intelligence-led investigation: Gule Muhammed and the three others mentioned above were arrested on February 20, 2024, vide CRB:752/2023,” said Ageca.
The police officer also added that it should be noted that the headteacher of the school and the cleaner, who was acting as the askari at that time, were arrested in December 2023 and were issued bonds as the matter was being investigated.
“The investigation team shall continue to monitor all leads into the disappearance of these computers to ensure the culprits are brought to book,” Ageca added.
