Former subcounty chief faces arrest for embezzlement

Dr. Tweheyo directed the resident district commissioner (RDC) to arrest Mugenyi and recover the lost money.

Kagadi: Officials from the Office of the President have ordered the arrest of Iddi Mugenyi, former Sub County Chief for Kicucura Sub County in Kagadi district, for allegedly misusing 15 million shillings meant for the construction of the sub-county headquarters.

Commissioner Dr. Tweheyo James announced the order for Mugenyi’s arrest on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, during a meeting with Kagadi district stakeholders at Kagadi community hall.

The arrest came after Kicucura Sub County LC3 Chairperson Gregory Mujungu reported that Mugenyi had stolen the funds and was shielded by the chief administrative officer, CAO, who transferred him to work at the district headquarters.

Dr. Tweheyo directed the resident district commissioner (RDC) to arrest Mugenyi and recover the lost money.

The commissioner also visited various project sites in the district, including a 2.5 billion-shilling project at St. Jude Burora SS, and warned civil servants and contractors against stealing government funds.

RDC Lillian Ruteraho promised to implement the directive and condemned members of the public who aid in shielding thieves of government funds.

Kagadi LC5 Chairperson Ndibwami B. Yosia welcomed the intervention and committed to continuing the monitoring drive in the new financial year.
