Former Buyaga County MP Ignatius Besisira Passes Away

His death followed a prolonged battle with the illness.

Kagadi: Ignatius Besisira, the former Member of Parliament for Greater Buyaga County and Buyaga East constituency in Kagadi District, has passed away.

The news of his death was confirmed on Sunday, January 12, 2025  by his close relatives.

Besisira, a resident of Kamata B Cell in Pachwa Town Council, Kagadi District, succumbed to an undisclosed illness while receiving treatment at an unnamed hospital in Kampala.

His death followed a prolonged battle with the illness.

Family members, including brothers Daniel Kisindi and Matia Kisembo, have confirmed the passing of the former legislator.

They also mentioned that burial arrangements are still under discussion, with meetings taking place both at the deceased’s home and in Kampala.

Local leaders have paid tribute to Besisira, remembering him as a unifying figure who played a key role in fostering peace, cooperation, and harmony in the Greater Kibaale region. They expressed concerns about the challenge of replacing such a committed leader.

Hon. Businge Justus, the Mayor of Pachwa Town Council, eulogized Besisira as a “leader of all seasons” whose guidance and leadership will be deeply missed.

Hon. Irumba Oliver, the female district councilor for Mabaale Sub County and Nyabutanzi, praised Besisira for his significant efforts in the creation of Kagadi and Kakumiro districts during his tenure as a Member of Parliament for Greater Buyaga.

Besisira’s legacy also includes serving as the former Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Kamwenge, the former Speaker of the Kibaale District Council, and a parliamentary commissioner for finance, among other important roles.

He leaves behind his son, Stephen Twesige Rulekere, who is the NRM flag bearer for Buyaga East County.
