Five arrested over robbery, murder of Hoima boda boda rider

Police have intensified the search for the remaining suspect who is still on the run.

Hoima: Territorial police in Hoima City are holding five suspects in connection with the alleged robbery and murder of a boda boda rider, identified as Ismail Mutebi, a resident of Hoima West Division.

According to Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine South Region Police Spokesperson, the suspects have been identified as Albert Nabassa alias Sipapa ,29, Simon Kirabo Kisembo ,21, Abdulkharim Kagabo alias King Master, Bright Kalule ,30, and Mohammad Mbalibura,36. One additional suspect remains at large.

Hakiza revealed that police recovered several exhibits, including a motorcycle with registration number UMA 7110 believed to have been used in the crime, a panga, and blood-stained clothing. The suspects reportedly confessed to robbing and strangling the deceased.

He added that investigations are ongoing to recover another stolen motorcycle with registration number UAZ 993J and a mobile phone taken from the victim. All recovered items are currently in police custody as exhibits.

Police have intensified the search for the remaining suspect who is still on the run.

In a related development, police in Kibaale District recovered two cattle that had been stolen and were intended for slaughter during the Easter period. The animals were intercepted on Thursday night, leading to the arrest of two suspects. Investigations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, in Hoima District, police are investigating a separate case of cattle theft in Kapapi Sub-county, where several suspects have been arrested.

Hakiza stated that ongoing operations have led to the recovery of slaughtered cattle remains, buried carcasses, pangas, knives, and blood-stained clothing. More suspects are still being pursued.

The thefts are alleged to have targeted cattle belonging to General Nabassa, who claims that about 70 heads of cattle have been stolen since October last year.

Police have advised residents of Kapapi Sub-county who have land disputes with the general to seek legal redress through courts instead of resorting to destruction of property.
