Fisherman kills wife after separation

The two have been living a separate life for over a year.

Serere: Police in Serere district are currently holding one suspect in custody for allegedly killing his wife.

The suspect was identified as Nsereko Jimmy, a fisherman and resident of Mugalama Landing site in Serere District, on allegations of aggravated murder by domestic violence that occurred on June 22, 2024, at around 2300/ p.m.

It’s believed that the suspect came from his place of work at the Mugalama Landing site in Serere District and assaulted his wife from her own home.

The two have been living a separate life for over a year.

The victim, identified as Ijangolet Betty, 40, a businesswoman and a resident of Aturia Village, Kabulabula Parish, Kagwara Town Council in Serere District, has been staying with the four children whom she had with the suspect.

Edson Obukulem, the East Kyoga regional police spokesperson, confirmed this incident, saying the victim was rushed to Kagwara Health Center III, where she was pronounced dead, and later on, the body was transferred to Serere Health Center IV for a postmortem.

He said the suspect has been arrested, and he is being held at CPS Serere as inquiries are underway.

“We wish to caution the public to desist from this kind of violence and rather to report such matters to the relevant authority,” said Obukulem.
