Masindi: Residents of Bisaju Village in Kasenene Parish Nyantonzi Sub County Masindi district were left in shock on Sunday after an angry Weduga Munguriek, 28, burned his child’s legs over theft.
Peter Drata, the area LC1 chairperson, told ugreports.co.ug on Monday that the 3-year-old child accessed the neighbor’s house and ate the sauce.
He explained that this prompted Munguriek to set fire and burn the child’s legs. The incident happened at around 4 p.m. ‘’It was on Sunday at around 4 p.m when Munguriek was told that his son had stolen a neighbor’s sauce. He set fire and burned the child’s legs.’’
Drata asserted that the heartless parent has been arrested, and they were taking him to the Katanga police post by press time. ‘’We have arrested him, and we are taking him to the Katanga police post. We can’t tolerate such barbaric behaviors.’’
Rogers Agaba, a resident, disclosed that Munguriek divorced with the mother’s baby, stressing that he boozes alcohol; he is careless; thus, this prompted the child to steal the neighbor’s sauce over hunger.
‘’The child stole sauce because it was hungry. Munguriek divorced the wife over his uncivilized characters. He lives with the child, and a time the child goes hungry the whole day,’’ he asserted.
Sunday Eyotu, the LC3 Chairperson for Nyantonzi, confirmed the incident and said he advised area leadership to arrest the suspect, take him to police, and take the child to the health center for treatment.
He condemned the act and advised parents to always settle their misunderstandings before breaking the marriage, which leads to the suffering of innocent children.
Munguriek declined to comment on the matter.
Recently, Annet Karamagi, the probation and welfare officer at Masindi district local government, stressed that most children in the district are suffering as a result of domestic violence.
‘’My office is registering a number of child neglect cases, and this is as a result of unending domestic violence,’’ she said, and she advised parents to always settle their matters instead of divorcing.
