Fatal accident on Jinja-Kampala highway claims one life

Buikwe: A fatal accident occurred on March 14, 2024, at Nakibiizi village along the Jinja-Kampala Highway, leaving one person dead and another injured.

Vehicles involved Mercedes Benz Axor trailer (KCL 183B / ZE 1318) driven by Mohammed Naman, a Kenyan national and resident of Mombasa and Isuzu Elf truck (UBB 457W) driver yet to be identified.

According to SP Hellen Butoto, the spokesperson for the Sezibwa region, the accident happened when the Mercedes Benz trailer, traveling from Jinja towards Kampala, attempted to overtake another vehicle at Nakibiizi village.

In the process, it collided head-on with the Isuzu Elf truck, which was coming from the opposite direction, causing the trailer to overturn.

Mohammed Naman, 50 years old, Kenyan, and resident of Mombasa was rushed to Jinja Referral Hospital for treatment while a passenger in the Isuzu Elf truck, identified as Grace died on spot and her body taken to Jinja Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination.

The Isuzu Elf truck (UBB 457W) has been towed to Njeru Police Station for inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV), the Mercedes Benz trailer (KCL 183B / ZE 1318) was removed using a crane as investigations into the accident are ongoing.

Authorities continue to urge motorists to exercise caution while overtaking and observe traffic regulations to prevent further accidents.
