Farmers in West Nile trained on financial literacy management
He says this will help the farmers add value to the products before they reach the market.
Arua: Post Bank, in partnership with the Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises, has trained farmers on financial literacy management.
The engagement that took place at the Edents hotel in Arua City attracted farmers and business people from Arua City, Nebbi, and Maracha, among others.
During an engagement, Kizito Enzama, who works at the Post Bank Arua branch as a personal bank, says the knowledge shared helps small and medium enterprises develop.
Enzama further lamented that the common mistake that farmers have been facing has been access to information, not because they don’t want to receive it, but where to get it.
Richard Tumwesigye from the Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises Uganda says the collaboration on the agro-small and medium enterprises program aims at adding value to agricultural products.
He says this was done after realizing that small and medium enterprises faced a lot of challenges, such as a lack of knowledge on value addition.
Asiku Kiiza, the central division commercial officer, says the farmers need to form groups and Sacco’s so that they can be easily helped by the financial institutions and government.
He says most of the consumable goods in Arua are exported from other regions, thus calling on the farmers to take on the challenge with the knowledge they have received from their engagement with Post Bank.
The resident city commissioner of Arua City, Charles Ichogor, says the engagement has come at a time when the government is implementing a parish development modal program.
He says this will help the farmers add value to the products before they reach the market.
