Mbale: Maswere Derrick, the top-performing science student in the 2023 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) results in Eastern Uganda, has been awarded a government scholarship to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at Makerere University.

The former Nyondo Secondary School student was hosted at his alma mater on Friday, where he delivered an inspirational speech to students, encouraging them to work hard and emulate his example.

Maswere, who scored 20 points in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM), expressed gratitude to the school management and teachers for creating a conducive learning environment. He also thanked his parents for their unwavering support.

“Maswere has put Nyondo Secondary School on the academic map, and we are proud of his achievement,” said Mr. Dismas Wandulu Samuel, the headmaster. “We urge all students to follow his example and strive for excellence.”

Buyela Peter, Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), commended Maswere’s efforts and encouraged students to emulate his success. “We appeal to parents and guardians to enroll their children at Nyondo Secondary School for quality education and grooming,” he added.

Nashimolo Paul, Maswere’s father, thanked God for blessing his family with a bright student. “I was burning charcoal to provide for my family’s basic needs when I heard the news, which left me with immense joy,” he recounted.

Nyondo Secondary School, a day school located in Mbale district, has consistently been one of the best-performing schools in the region, excelling in both science and arts subjects.

The school honored Maswere with a cash award of UGX 500,000, a certificate of appreciation, and other gifts, celebrating his achievement and inspiring current students to strive for similar success.
