Driver arrested for shooting, injuring 12-year-old boy

He is urging the public to avoid taking matters into their own hands when dealing with suspected criminals and to report such incidents to the police.

Kampala: A 12-year-old boy, Babalanda Edrine, is recovering in hospital after being shot by the driver of a black Toyota Harrier (registration number UBQ 699B) on December 31, 2024.

The shooting occurred at around 9:25 p.m. as the boy was traveling in a taxi driven by Nsubuga Robert.

According to Nsubuga, the driver of the Toyota Harrier opened fire, claiming he was attempting to fend off thieves who had tried to rob him while driving.

However, a stray bullet hit the young boy, who was sitting in the back seat of the taxi. The shooter fled the scene upon realizing he had injured someone.

The victim was immediately rushed by his father, Babalanda Moses, to a nearby clinic, before being referred to Mulago Hospital for further treatment.

Patrick Onyango, the Police Spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Area, confirmed the arrest of the shooter, identified as Kitaka Mohammed. He has been charged with attempted murder, and investigations are ongoing.
