Detectives investigate murder of Masindi DHO, burial program released

Masindi: A team of police detectives has been deployed in Masindi district to fast-track investigations surrounding the murder of the former acting Masindi district health officer (DHO), Dr. Jino Abiriga.

In an exclusive interview with this publication Monday evening, Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, said the team has been deployed to investigate the case to the last dote.

In addition, Hakiza said that they have so far detained four people, all family members, including the deceased’s wife to aid in the investigations.

‘’The suspects are aiding the police detectives to carry out investigations surrounding the murder of the family head,’’ he added.

On the other hand, when our reporter visited the late Dr. Abiriga’s home in Kijura North Cell this morning at around 11:00 a.m., police sealed the area as a scene of crime and recorded statements from several people who were identified and selected as witnesses.

The medic’s dead body was discovered on Sunday near his home in Kijura North Cell, Central Division, Masindi Municipality.

Unconfirmed sources intimate that the deceased was notified in the wee hours of Sunday morning at around 2:00 a.m. that there was an emergency at Masindi district general hospital that needed his intervention.

Burial program

The Masindi district authorities have this evening released the burial program for the murdered acting Masindi district health officer, Dr. Jino Abiriga.

He will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Tumvia village in Anyivu Parish, Tara Sub County, Maracha District.

Cosmas Byaruhanga, the district chairman, told this publication that the lifeless body of Abiriga will arrive at his official residence at Masindi General Hospital this evening, and they will conduct a vigil service.

Then tomorrow (Tuesday), it will be conveyed to Masindi district council for the last tribute and body viewing.

After the district council session, it will be transported to Maracha district for the official send-off, which will be on Thursday this week.

Byaruhanga said that the district will do the needful to ensure that the services Abiriga has been offering are not affected.

‘’Security is investigating this case to the dote, and as the district, we shall do the needful to ensure that the services he has been offering are not affected,’’ he assured the public.
