Deputy Chief Justice Launches Chief Magistrates Court in Namayingo
Buteera also announced plans to build new courts in Mbale, Mbarara, and Gulu in the upcoming financial year.

Namiyingo: Deputy Chief Justice Richard Buteera has reassured Ugandans that the number of principal judges will increase from 91 to 150 to enhance access to justice.
This announcement was made during the launch ceremony of the Namayingo Chief Magistrate’s Court, an event attended by a wide range of distinguished guests, including representatives from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), the Principal Judge, Permanent Secretaries from the Judiciary, Woman MP Hon. Makhoha Margret, Deputy RDC Juko, LCV Namayingo Sanya Ronald, local stakeholders, and many others.
LCV Sanya Ronald expressed his gratitude to the Uganda Judiciary for revitalizing the Namayingo court, which had been renting old buildings and using the district council hall for court proceedings for over 50 years.
He also took the opportunity to request the construction of a prison, judges’ residences, and Grade 1 courts in the subcounties of Sigulu, Dolwe, and Mutumba.
Ronald emphasized the challenges faced by residents of the island district, who often travel up to six hours to reach the Namayingo District Court, resulting in delayed justice and denying vulnerable individuals timely access to justice.
In response, Deputy Chief Justice Buteera promised to construct courts in the aforementioned subcounties and assured Ugandans of the judiciary’s commitment to bringing justice closer to the people.
He further called for continued lobbying efforts to secure prison facilities and judges’ housing.
Buteera also announced plans to build new courts in Mbale, Mbarara, and Gulu in the upcoming financial year.
