Kyegegwa: A couple in Mpara B Village, located in Mpara Town Council, Kyegegwa District, is stranded with their child after losing all their household property in a suspected arson attack that left their home completely destroyed by fire.

The victims have been identified as Tumwebaze Rodgers (30) and his wife Twinomujuni Moureen, both residents of Mpara B. According to Tumwebaze, the fire broke out on Monday at around 8:00 PM while the couple was away attending to their pork joint and bar business at Nyarubaru Trading Centre.

“We were informed by neighbors that our house was on fire. By the time we got there, everything had been reduced to ashes,” Tumwebaze told UG Reports.

The couple, who are now left homeless with their child, say they have no known conflicts with anyone in the community and are calling for justice.

Godfrey Muhangi, the area chairperson, condemned the attack, confirming that one suspect, identified as Godwin Tumwine, a local mechanic, has been arrested and is currently detained at Mpara Police Station to assist with investigations.

Muhangi urged residents to refrain from such acts of violence, calling them “ungodly” and a threat to community peace.

John Byabasaija, the Mayor of Mpara Town Council, also condemned the incident. He advised residents to seek peaceful ways of resolving disputes instead of resorting to criminal acts.

Efforts to get a comment from the police were unsuccessful by press time.
