Kakumiro: In a significant move, Kakumiro District councilors have approved a motion to create Kisiita District, despite a Ministry of Local Government ban on establishing new administrative units due to financial constraints.
The motion was introduced by Grace Tusemerirwe, the district councilor representing Mpasaana Town Council and Sub County, during a council meeting at Rukurato Hall in Kakumiro Town Council recently.
Tusemerirwe emphasized that the proposal followed thorough consultations with lower local governments and adhered to the Local Government Act Cap 243 and the 1995 Constitution of Uganda.
The proposed Kisiita District will encompass eight local governments: Katikara Sub County, Kisiita Town Council, Kisiita Sub County, Mpasaana Town Council, Mpasaana Sub County, Mwitanzige Sub County, Nkooko Town Council, and Nkooko Sub County.
The motion received support from councilors Atuhure Oliver, representing Kisiita Town Council and Sub County, and Pelegrine Mukidi, the councilor for elderly persons.
District Speaker Ajuna Joseph Byarugaba clarified that approving the motion during the ministry’s ban would not pose any harm. He assured the council that if the ban is lifted, Kisiita will be considered for elevation to district status.
Alidwomukama Micheal, chairperson of the Kisiita District creation task force, stated that the initiative aims to bring services closer to the people and create job opportunities within the constituency.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including Deputy RDC Kakumiro Peter Bisoborwa, LCV Chairperson Joseph Sentayi Senkusu, and Deputy CAO Erisu Peter, marking a pivotal moment in the district’s administrative development.
