Censured Masindi PDM SACCO chairperson reclaims position after refunding members’ money
He confessed to having received more than 5000 shillings.
Masindi: Rashid Kasaija who had been censured from the position of the chairperson of Western Ward Parish Development Model (PDM) SACCO in Masindi central division, Masindi district has reclaimed his position after refunding the money he had taken from the SACCO members.
Kasaija had been censured together with his entire executive by the SACCO members and replaced with other people following allegations of extorting money from the members seeking to access PDM funds, in contravention of the set guidelines.
This prompted the division chairperson Isaac Bongomin to petition the RDC’s office that convened a meeting at the division headquarters in Kihande cell recently to resolve the impasse.
Speaking during the meeting, Kasaija confessed to having received more than 5000 shillings, the official amount from the SACCO members but clarified that the amount was agreed upon by the members themselves to expedite the process of getting PDM funds from the SACCO.
However, Kasaija revealed that after realizing that the money was erroneously given to him, he decided to refund it to those who had given it which the members present attested to and allowed him to resume his work as their SACCO chairperson.
Early, one of the PDM SACCO members only identified as Gladys had accused Kasaija of removing her name from the selected beneficiary list after taking 15,000 shillings from her.
Isaac Bongomin, the division chairperson clarified that by petitioning the RDC’s office after realizing the anomalies in the implementation of PDM program in the division but not because he is against anyone.
