He died on the spot due to the impact.

Masindi: A tragic accident claimed the life of a 49-year-old carpenter, Vincent Katerega, after he collided with a fallen tree along the Masindi-Kigumba road on Wednesday evening.

Katerega, a resident of Kamunyonga Cell in Karujubu Division, Masindi District, was returning from Kigumba on a motorcycle when he unknowingly rammed into a tree that had fallen during a heavy downpour in Kasomoro Village, Miirya Sub-county. He died on the spot due to the impact.

Eyewitnesses reported that the tree had fallen earlier in the day amid torrential rains, but the road had not been cleared by the time Katerega was returning.

Residents who arrived at the scene later found his lifeless body next to his damaged motorcycle and immediately began removing the tree from the road.

Yosam Majara, the LC1 Chairperson of Kasomoro, confirmed hearing about the incident but said he did not have full details until he visited the scene and saw bloodstains, indicating the severity of the crash.

Hassan Mugisa, the LC1 Chairperson of Kamunyonga Cell, told this publication that the deceased’s body had since been transported to his ancestral home in Kigorobya, Hoima District, where burial arrangements are underway. He is expected to be laid to rest on Thursday.

When contacted, Assistant Commissioner of Police Damalie Nachuha, the Albertine North Regional Police Commander, said she had not yet been informed of the incident, suggesting that it had not been officially reported to the police.
