Busoga urged to seek divine grace

Jinja: The Busoga Development Consortium has received praise for its partnership with the Office of the President, a collaboration that was acknowledged during a ministerial dinner held at the Nile Resort Hotel Jinja on October 10, 2024, Kenneth Wamatoyi writes.
This event was organized by the efforts of the Rtd Major Vice President Jesca Alupo in preparation for the upcoming prayer week, scheduled to take place from October 14 to 20 across the entire region.
Various state dignitaries and members of parliament attended the dinner, including Solomon Khisa, MP for Luuka South Constituency, Hon. Princess Percis Namuganza, 3rd Deputy Prime Minister Rukia Nakadama, and Hon. Milly Babalanda.
The Consortium’s partnership with the Office of the President is not new; in May 2022, Vice President Jessica Alupo met with the Busoga Consortium leaders, applauding their shared development agenda and work plan aimed at improving the region’s socio-economic status.
The Busoga Development Agenda (BDA) framework, launched in 2022, outlines the Consortium’s objectives, including facilitating and strengthening institutional frameworks, social mobilization, and local economic participation.
Hon. Rukia Isanga Nakadama, 3rd Deputy Prime Minister, delivered the Vice President’s speech at the Busoga Development Consortium Ministerial dinner event, praising the partnership between the Consortium and the Office of the President. She thanked the Consortium for launching the Village Agricultural Model, developed in collaboration with China Agricultural University, to localize the Parish Development Model in Busoga Region. The Deputy Prime Minister urged the Busoga community to reposition themselves for greatness, unite and resist divisions, leverage local resources and central government opportunities, and improve their quality of life.
In her speech, Vice President Jesca Alupo quoted Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.” She encouraged the Busoga community, both at home and in the diaspora, to participate in prayers and fasting, emphasizing that prayer brings transformation.
Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda, minister of the presidency, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the role of prayer and hard work in reconciling community differences and driving social-economic transformation.

Mula Anthony, Director General of the Busoga Consortium and Development, emphasized the organization’s focus on various sectors, including environment conservation, food storage, and showcasing Busoga’s development to attract visitors from across regions. He highlighted Busoga’s impressive natural resources, rivaling those of China globally.
The Consortium aims to localize the Village Agricultural Model, launched by Vice President Jessica Alupo, to promote development at the village level. Three model villages have been identified to spearhead this initiative. Mula stressed the crucial role of religious leaders in driving transformation, citing their influence in promoting mindset change and socioeconomic development.
Hon. Kisa Stephen, Luuka South, and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, emphasized the importance of prayer for various issues, including population growth, in light of the recent population census. He noted that Busoga’s resources should outpace its population growth.
