Burundi withdraws its army from DRC
“A number of trucks filled with military personnel arrived in Burundi since Monday,” the officer added.

National: Burundian authorities have withdrawn their soldiers from Bukavu, a rebel-controlled city in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), according to four sources who spoke with Reuters on Tuesday.
Among the sources were a Burundian army officer and two United Nations officials.
“The Burundian troops are withdrawing from the Democratic Republic of Congo,” the army officer confirmed.
“A number of trucks filled with military personnel arrived in Burundi since Monday,” the officer added.
The reports of Burundi’s military withdrawal come shortly after President Evariste Ndayishimiye warned in a national television address six days ago that the ongoing conflict in the DRC risks escalating into a regional war.
A government statement released Monday revealed that Ndayishimiye met with U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres over the weekend to discuss various issues, including the deteriorating security situation in eastern DRC.
Ndayishimiye and Guterres expressed concern over the worsening conflict, with the statement describing it as “a situation that is getting worse and worse and could spread to the entire region, particularly the countries bordering the DRC.”
The Burundian president called on “the international community to work to dismantle all negative foreign forces present on Congolese soil, so that the population can find peace and security.”
