Bunyoro leaders mourn passing of former MP Besisira, burial program announced
He was also serving as a Commissioner in the Local Government Finance Commission (LGFC) at the time of his passing.
Kagadi: Leaders in the Bunyoro sub-region are united in grief following the passing of Hon. Ignatius Besisira, the former Member of Parliament for Buyaga County and later Buyaga East constituency.
Besisira passed away on Sunday at Platinum Hospital in Kampala.
Among those who paid tribute was the Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Nabbanja Robinah, who visited Besisira’s family in Buziga to offer her condolences. She was warmly received by Gerald Businge and Twesige Stephen Rulekere, family representatives.
During her visit, Nabbanja expressed her heartfelt sympathy, describing Besisira as a dedicated and selfless leader, a patriot who served the country with great commitment. She also contributed 5 million shillings toward the burial expenses.
Other leaders, such as Hajji Barakuraha Moses, a former district councilor, and Patrick Zikanshagiza, a senior presidential advisor, joined in mourning Besisira’s loss.
Barakuraha remembered Besisira as a hardworking and dedicated individual, while Zikanshagiza praised him for his truthfulness and principled leadership.
Besisira’s contributions to Uganda spanned various roles, including serving as a teacher, district councilor, Speaker of Kibaale District Local Government, and a Member of Parliament for two terms.
He was also serving as a Commissioner in the Local Government Finance Commission (LGFC) at the time of his passing.
The burial program for Hon. Ignatius Besisira has been announced, with a series of commemorative events from Monday to Friday. His official state burial was approved by President Museveni. The program includes requiem masses, vigils, and the final burial ceremony.
According to Gerald Businge and Twesige Stephen Rulekere, the burial will take place on Friday, January 17, 2025, to allow for adequate preparation for a fitting official send-off.
The family also shared that the Kagadi District Council will hold an event to pay last respects on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 11:00 AM.
A mass will be conducted at St. Mary’s Church in Kagadi at 2:00 PM, and the burial will follow on Friday at Igayaza, Pachwa.
Hon. Janepher Kyomuhendo Mbabazi the Kagadi district woman member of parliament who doubles as the Chairperson organizing committee for burial ceremony of the former States man says the earlier planned burial arrangement has been changed after president Museveni requesting to be the chief mourner.
Hon. Ndibwami B Yosia has also confirmed that the District council which was due for today has been postponed to Thursday.
Besisira’s passing has been met with deep sorrow across Uganda, and his legacy will continue to be honored by all who knew him. His contributions to the community and country remain etched in the hearts of many.
