Bunyoro Kingdom interim cabinet ministers sworn in

Byakutaga’s term expired in October 2023 and was extended until 30 June 2024.

Hoima: The interim cabinet ministers for Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom were sworn in on Saturday in Hoima City.

The ceremony that was led by Robert Atega, Commissioner of Oath saw the newly appointed interim Prime Minister, Dr. Kyamaywa Kasilivu, along with other interim cabinet ministers, officially take office.

The new cabinet was announced on September 3, 2024, by Chief Prince Eng. Fred Mugenyi Ruchuya, following resolutions made by the heads of clans to address a leadership crisis that had left the kingdom without leadership for over a year.

However, the outgoing Prime Minister, Andrew Kirungi Byakutaga, has refused to vacate office, claiming that only King Dr. Solomon Iguru Gafabusa can remove him.

The newly appointed ministers, including Charles Ochaki Nyabwongo (Interim Minister for General Duties and Disaster Preparedness) and Jackson Wabyona Rugambwa (Interim Minister for Education and Sports), expressed their gratitude to the King and pledged to serve the kingdom selflessly.

Dr. Kasilivu Kyamanywa Atwooki, the new interim Prime Minister, vowed to work hard to restore the glory of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom, which had been affected by recent leadership issues.

Chief Prince Engineer Fred Mugenyi Ruchuya highlighted the challenges faced in establishing the new leadership and urged the new ministers to serve with unity and dedication.

‘’I congratulate the newly elected interim prime minister and cabinet ministers, and I urge you to serve the kingdom with unity and dedication.’’

The new interim cabinet began their duties immediately after the swearing-in ceremony.

In the new interim cabinet, Kugonza Miganda is the interim Speaker of the Orukurato (Parliament) and Chairperson of the Clans Consultative Council. John Apollo Rwemparo is the First Deputy Interim Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Land, and Natural Resources.

The former Buliisa County MP, Stephen Mukitale, is the Second Deputy Interim Prime Minister and Minister of Oil and Gas. Daphine Kabatalesa will serve as the Interim Minister of Palace Affairs and PA to the Queen Mother (Omugo). John Williams Byakagaba is the interim minister of finance and planning.

Francis Ssewante is the Interim Minister of Culture, Charles Ochaki Nyabwongo is the Interim Minister of General Duties and Disaster Preparedness, the former Buliisa district LCV Chairman Simon Kinene is the Interim Minister of Production.

Lenox Mugume is the Interim Minister of Restitution and Reparations. Annet Byaruhanga is the interim minister of gender and community development; Johnbosco Bukya is the interim minister of mineral resources; and Jackson Wabyona is the interim minister of education.

James Kisoro Isagara will serve as the Interim Minister of External Relations, Farouk Alinaitwe is the Interim Minister of Youth Skilling, Yunus Mugabe is the Interim Minister of Information and Kingdom Spokesperson, and Godfrey Segujja is the Interim Minister for Trade. Spirian Biribonwa has been appointed as the interim minister of health, and Daudi Cwa is the interim minister of investment.

Byakutaga’s term expired in October 2023 and was extended until 30 June 2024.
