Bunyoro districts fail to send local government leaders to NALI

Kagadi district alone would send 230 delegates for the retreat.

Kagadi: The districts of Kagadi, Kakumiro, and Kikube will not send local government leaders to the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi for retreat over overwhelming numbers of delegates and need to balance all regions in sending representatives to the institute for retreat.

A fortnight ago, at the wedding ceremony of Robert Kyomuhendo and Nurse Elizabeth in Kagadi town council, Prime Minister Robinah Nabanja said local government leaders from greater Kibaale, Kikuube, and Masindi would go to Kyankwanzi for retreat on August 26, 2024.

The delegates would include sub-county chairpersons, district councilors, chairpersons for youth and women councils, and district NRM executives and leaders for the youth, women, and PWDs.

Kagadi district alone would send 230 delegates for the retreat.

However, addressing a press briefing in his office in Kagadi town on Friday August 23, 2024, Kagadi district Chairman Ndibwami Yosia said he received communication from the office of the prime minister informing him about the changes made to the program.

According to the details of the communication, it is only Kibaale district that will send its leaders to Kyankwanzi, and other districts such as Kagadi, Kakumiro, and Kikuube will wait for another arrangement, and the date for consideration will be communicated.

Ndibwami said complaints had been raised accusing Prime Minister Nabanja of only favoring home districts for the leadership training, and the large numbers of delegates had also caused adjustments.

He says the need to draw representatives from other districts to balance all regions of the country has also contributed to barring the delegates from the districts of Kagadi, Kakumiro, and Kikuube from attending the Kyankwanzi retreat.

Ndibwami is asking Kagadi local leaders who were warming up for the Kyankwanzi retreat to remain patient as they wait for another opportunity to come in the future.
