Buliisa: Leaders in Buliisa district have asked the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) to fulfil the pledges that were made by the late Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, the then Chief of Defence Forces.
The call was made on Tuesday during the celebrations of the 43rd anniversary of Tarehe Siita in Buliisa District held at Wantembo barracks in Butiaba town council.
The LC3 Chairperson for Biiso Town Council, Peter Oketch, said the then Chief of Defense Forces, Late Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, pledged that the UPDF would construct the administrative block and a monument at Biiso War Memorial Secondary School in Biiso Town Council.
He noted that though other structures like the construction of the laboratories and equipping them were fulfilled, the pledge of constructing the administrative block and the monument haven’t been established.
The politician stressed that Biiso was a battlefield, thus there is a need to construct the monument in remembrance of the war and the construction of the administration block at the above school.
Nicholas Balisimaki, the Biiso town council speaker, also echoed the call for more efforts by the UPDF Marine on the pledges made in the recent Tare Sita celebrations on the completion of the administrative blocks at the same school.
However, Brig. Michael Nyarwa, the UPDF Marine Brigade Commander, did not respond to the leader’s request but instead reiterated the UPDF’s dedication to ensuring the collective security of Ugandans.
He also highlighted the strong relationship between the military and civilians, saying there is peace in the country.
Brig. Nyarwa also applauded the ruling government for the development brought about by peace.
The event was celebrated under the theme “Celebrating the Peoples’ Struggle for Unity, Security, and Peace for Socio-Economic Transformation.” The main event was presided over yesterday by President Museveni in Bugweri District in the Busoga sub-region.
