Bukimbiri leaders demand inclusion in President Museveni’s Kisoro visit

He urged Dr. Mateke and the district leadership to ensure that Bukimbiri is included in the President’s itinerary, warning that failure to do so might discourage residents from fully participating in the upcoming visit.

Kisoro: As President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni prepares to visit Kisoro on November 24 for his presidential campaign rallies in the Kigezi sub-region, local leaders from Bukimbiri County have appealed to the organizing team to include their area in the presidential itinerary.

During a National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential preparatory meeting held at the Kisoro District Council Hall, chaired by Dr. Philemon Mateke, the NRM District Chairperson, local leaders from Bukimbiri convened a follow-up meeting where they voiced strong demands for the President to extend his visit to their county.

The leaders including LCs, councilors, and community representatives expressed concern that Bukimbiri County is often sidelined during high-profile presidential visits, denying residents the opportunity to present their challenges directly to the Head of State.

Kamusime Juliet, the LC5 Councilor representing Bukimbiri and Nyanamo Town Council, said residents have grown disappointed over unfulfilled presidential pledges, particularly the long-promised Kisoro–Buhoma tourism road, which has remained incomplete for decades.

“People in Bukimbiri have started losing hope in the NRM due to unfulfilled promises. The President’s visit would help restore their confidence and trust, especially if he makes a stop in Bukimbiri County ahead of the Kisoro rally,” said Kamusime.

Mutambuzi Fred Kanyarujju, LCIII Chairperson of Nyundo Sub-county, applauded President Museveni for elevating Bukimbiri to county status and initiating steps to turn it into a district. However, he noted that residents continue to face inequities in service delivery and appointments, which they would like to address directly with the President.

He urged Dr. Mateke and the district leadership to ensure that Bukimbiri is included in the President’s itinerary, warning that failure to do so might discourage residents from fully participating in the upcoming visit.

Charles Ahimbisibwe, District Councilor representing Bukimbiri County, emphasized that their main demand is for the President to hear firsthand about the community’s challenges in education, health, and transport.

“Our area contributes to national revenue through natural resources like forests, lakes, and agriculture, yet we don’t receive a fair share of the national cake,” Ahimbisibwe lamented.

Similarly, Norah Mugabe, LC5 Woman Councilor for Nyanamo Town Council and Nyabwishenya Sub-county, stressed that a presidential visit would offer Bukimbiri residents an opportunity to showcase their potential and present their development needs.

The leaders collectively appealed to the organizing committee to reconsider the campaign schedule and allow President Museveni to make a stopover in Bukimbiri County, saying such a gesture would strengthen NRM support and revive public faith in government programs.
