Bukedea: Schools in Bukedea district are experiencing low turn up of learners across the district.
On 5th, Feb 2024 schools across the country were officially opened by the ministry of education and sports for their first term 2024.
In the survey conducted by our reporter indicate that at Bukedea primary school in Bukedea town council, only 25 pupils were present out of 900, pupils registered in the school.
Ms. Grace Akol, the Bukedea primary school head teacher said the presence of the low turn up of learners in school is attributed to the parent’s negative attitude towards education.
“Most parents are still holding learners in their homes claiming that they are still buying for them scholastic materials,” she said.
Akol stressed parents hold children at home but during the release of results they are the first people to complain.
Mr. Abraham Opeede, another head teacher of township primary school said in his school only 325 are present out of 1,262 pupils registered.
He said the majority of the pupils are busy in the market purchasing scholastic materials.
“We as teachers are at school but learners are not there so we are waiting for them to report”, said Mr. Opeede.
However, when contacted, Ms. Jane Francis Anyango, the Bukedea district inspector of schools told this publication that the most of the pupils have reported back to schools.
