Bukedea: A total of 21 angry councilors in Kongunga town council in Bukedea district locked the office of the town clerk, Emmanuel Elimu, on Monday.
According to the councilors, the accused officer is incompetent and corrupt.
Hellen Akurut, the town council speaker, together with other councilors, said the town clerk’s office will not be opened until they get a new town clerk.
“Last year we demonstrated to the district demanding Mr. Elimu be transferred, but we were told to hold an update this year. As a council, we have resolved to lock him out of the office,” said Akurut.
Emmanuel Elimu, the accused town clerk, when reached for comment, says the councilors took illegal action to lock his office without his knowledge.
He said the issue that was in the council was resolved and harmonized, so where the councilors got their anger about locking him out of office is not known.
“I am here at Kachumbala police station making a statement because I don’t know who locked my office and what they have taken from my office,” said Mr. Elimu.
Mr. Gabriel Ejukat, Kongunga town council LC3 chairperson, when contacted on the phone, said he was unaware of the councilors’ actions.
“I am green about what’s taking place and am just organizing to visit the office,” said Ejukat.
Mary Akol, the Bukedea district chairperson, confirmed, when reached for a comment, that Kongunga town council has been gradually overtaken by town clerks’ actions.
“We have a meeting over the same issue, but I am now engaging RDC and CAO in order to calm down the situation,” said Ms. Akol.
We couldn’t get a comment from the Bukedea chief administrative officer by the time of publication.
