Bugisu Cultural Institution distributes copies of the translated Ugandan constitution

This initiative represents an important milestone in ensuring that our people have meaningful access to the supreme law of the land in a language they understand.

Op-Ed: In a renewed effort to promote constitutional literacy within our community, the Bamasaaba Cultural Institution wrote to the Uganda Law Reform Commission requesting support with translated versions of the 1995 Constitution of Uganda (Lumasaba translation) and the Institution of Traditional and Cultural Leaders Act, 2011.

These documents are essential for empowering our people with the knowledge needed to engage meaningfully with governance and community leadership.

The Uganda Law Reform Commission mandated by law to carry out such tasks responded positively to our request. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to its leadership for supplying the institution with over 500 books, including the translated Constitution and the Local Council Courts Act.

This generous support marks a major step forward in our ongoing campaign to strengthen legal awareness across Bugisu.

The following offices, institutions, and individuals received copies of the translated Constitution and the Local Council Courts Act. In true Oliver Twist fashion, however, our community still needs additional copies of both the Constitution and the Cultural Leaders Act to reach many more people and institutions.
