Budaka farmer arrested for scamming Shs30mln from job applicants
In return, he promised to assist them in securing these positions.
Budaka: A farmer from Bugezi village, Pepeti sub-county in Budaka district, named Umaru Mugode, was arrested on Tuesday by police over allegations of scamming over 30 million shillings from six job applicants.
According to Moses Kityo Mwanga, the Bukedi North police commander, Mugode was apprehended at his home after six individuals complained that he had collected money from them, promising to help them secure jobs at Kamuli and Butebo district local governments.
The police report states that between June and October this year, both districts advertised job openings in various departments, seeking qualified Ugandans to fill those vacancies.
Mugode allegedly convinced the six applicants whose names have not been disclosed by the police to pay varying amounts of money, based on the job positions they were applying for, totaling 30 million shillings.
In return, he promised to assist them in securing these positions.
However, when none of the applicants were shortlisted, they reported Mugode to the police after he refused to refund their money.
The suspect is currently being held at the Budaka Police Station and is awaiting court proceedings on charges of theft and false pretenses.
