BREAKING! Kawempe North MP Sssegirinya is dead

Kampala: Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya, the Member of Parliament for Kawempe North, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the age of 37. He died at Rubaga Hospital in Kampala, where he had been receiving medical care.
Ssegirinya, an outspoken member of the Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP), had been battling health issues since his release from Kigo Prison. He and fellow MP Allan Ssewanyana were incarcerated for over a year on charges related to attacks in the Masaka Sub Region. After their release on bail in February 2023, Ssegirinya sought medical treatment in Uganda, Kenya, and the Netherlands.
NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, expressed his sorrow on social media, stating, “Very sad news this morning. Our brother, our friend, our fellow leader Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya has passed on.”
Hon. Mathias Mpuuga, MP for Nyendo-Mukungwe in Masaka, also shared the news, expressing his condolences.
