Bank manager, accountant remanded over theft of PDM funds

During his regional tours, he emphasized the need for law enforcement to act swiftly against offenders involved in this government initiative.

Kamuli: The manager and accountant at Finance Trust Bank in Kamuli district have been remanded to Kamuli Government Prison in connection with the alleged theft of funds meant for the Parish Development Model (PDM).

The two individuals, identified as Wambi Charles and Leticia Nakimuli, were arrested earlier this month and had been on police bond while investigations were ongoing.

Kamuli Chief magistrates Court, presided over by Aisha Nabukeera charged the two with theft, and they will remain in custody until their next court appearance on November 28, 2024.

The charges stem from allegations that the two individuals made unauthorized deductions from PDM funds during the disbursement process to beneficiaries’ accounts, which goes against the PDM guidelines.

According to ASP Michael Kasadha, the Busoga North police spokesperson, investigations have revealed that over 50 beneficiaries were affected, as they received less money than they were entitled to under the PDM guidelines. Further details will be provided as the investigation progresses.

This incident comes amid heightened concerns over the mismanagement of PDM funds. Recently, the President of Uganda issued a strong warning against the theft and misappropriation of funds allocated for the PDM.

During his regional tours, he emphasized the need for law enforcement to act swiftly against offenders involved in this government initiative.
