The fire destroyed various equipment, including two generators, three motorcycles, disco sets, speakers, and parts of the building.
Maracha: Police in Maracha Central Police Station are investigating an arson case that occurred at Tara Trading Center in Maracha District early on the morning of January 2, 2025.
The fire caused significant property damage (SD 02/01/2025).
West Nile Region Police Spokesperson, SP Collins Asea, confirmed that the incident was reported by Mr. Leku Innocent, a 37-year-old teacher at Kuru Secondary School and a resident of Kijomoro East Village, Tara Sub-County.
Preliminary reports indicate that Mr. Leku had hosted a disco event on January 1, 2025, despite being advised by local residents to postpone it due to the mourning of an elderly community member.
At approximately 04:15 AM, unidentified assailants allegedly set the disco hall on fire, causing the flames to spread to nearby structures.
The fire destroyed various equipment, including two generators, three motorcycles, disco sets, speakers, and parts of the building.
SP Asea revealed that initial investigations show that the owner of the disco hall had previously received warnings from district authorities about noise pollution and related concerns.
“Investigations are ongoing to identify the individuals responsible for this act and ensure they are held accountable under the law,” Asea added.
