She notes that this sustained operation over the next three months aims to promote compliance with traffic rules and minimize accidents.
Arua: Police in the Arua City Central Business Division are taking proactive measures to enhance road safety.
The recent traffic operation, conducted on July 9, 2024, resulted in the impounding of 137 motorcycles due to various traffic offenses.
Josephine Angucia, the West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, says that among these offenses were riding without crash helmets, lacking riding and driving licenses, and operating numberless motorcycles.
Angucia asserts that 88 motorcycles received EPS (Express Penalty Scheme) fines for their offenses, which they promptly paid, and 17 motorcycles are currently parked pending EPS resolution.
Additionally, 12 numberless bikes are awaiting registration with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), and 20 motorcycles are under investigation.
In addition to enforcement, the traffic police also engaged in educational efforts. They sensitized riders about traffic regulations, emphasizing the dangers of carrying more than one person (pillion riding) on a motorcycle.
Furthermore, they provided information on the process of obtaining riding or driving licenses.
Angucia notes that this sustained operation over the next three months aims to promote compliance with traffic rules and minimize accidents.
