Kampala: The Arua National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) Engineer, Mr. Ijuka Norman, appeared before the anti-corruption court on Tuesday.

Jjuka has been remanded to Luzira prison until January 18, 2024, to allow the Inspectorate of Government to verify documents presented for his bail application.

The accused engineer has appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court Chief Magistrate Joan Aciro and denied the charges of corruption and abuse of office that he allegedly committed in March 2021 as Arua Branch Project Supervisor of works for Odupi Water Project in Terego District.

The offenses committed by Engineer Norman JJuka were prejudicial to both his employer and the communities of Wilika and Ayivu in Terego District. The Inspectorate of Government was represented by Inspectorate Officer William Moses Ntumwa.

The Inspectorate of Government ordered the arrest of Mr. Ijuka Norman for abuse and theft of public property, causing financial loss worth UGX. 100 million shillings.

The water engineer stole properties, which included 847 water pipes meant for the Odupi water project in Omugo Sub-county in Terego District.

He alleged that the works were completed, but not.

In addition, he stole materials comprising iron bars, concrete blocks, and assorted paints worth UGX. 30 million from the site of office block construction meant for the Arua Area NWSC office. Mr. Ijuka Norman was arrested on January 3, 2024, in Arua.
