Arua hosts national global handwashing day 2023

Arua: The national global hand washing day 2023 in Uganda was hosted by Arua district together with Arua city.
The event that was organized at Eruba Primary School Playground last weekend was under the theme that clean hands are within reach.
While at the event, Endruma Benson Andima, head teacher at Eruba Primary School, called upon the ministry to provide the hand washing facilities for washing hands at schools because the washing materials they had got damaged and old, they no longer help, or other schools have a high population of learners against the number of facilities within.
Similarly, Alfred Okuonzi, LC 5, Arua district, challenged the people of Arua district for taking hand washing for granted.
He said that according to culture, many people have mostly washed their hands with soap after eating meat so that they could remove the smell from their hands.
The politician says COVID-19 taught a number of people the culture of washing hands, which is now fading out due to the phasing out of the COVID-19 guidelines.
He further added that during the time of COVID, people were maintaining their health, but unfortunately, after COVID, the turn-up has become low.
Meanwhile, Geoffrey Okwisa, RDC Arua district, says that hand washing is an essential medicine for health, disease control, and socioeconomic transformation.
He called upon people to encourage sensitization about health.
Similarly, Paparu Lillian Obiale, the woman Member of Parliament, appealed to all partners to keep encouraging the people to wash their hands, citing that in Lugbar culture, many people take hand washing for granted and prefer eating food without washing their hands.
Global Hand Washing Day is an annual celebration on October 15th to highlight the importance of hand washing with soap and water.
