Armed robbery in Moyo as suspects cross from South Sudan
“We call for calm as investigations continue,” Asea added.
Moyo: Police in Moyo District are investigating an armed robbery in which four gunmen, believed to have crossed into Uganda from South Sudan, fired live rounds before staging a smash-and-grab at several shops in Maringu East Cell, Lefori Town Council.
The incident occurred on November 1, 2025, at around 8:06 p.m., according to police reports.
Confirming the incident, North West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Collins Asea, said preliminary findings indicate that four unidentified armed men, wielding three rifles, entered Uganda from South Sudan before executing the attack.
“According to our investigation team on the ground, the suspects fired gunshots in the vicinity, causing panic and prompting residents to flee,” Asea stated.
He added that the assailants then broke into one of the shops, stealing an undisclosed number of smartphones and an unspecified amount of money. Police later recovered cartridge cases from the scene during an initial inspection.
“The scene has been secured, and a forensic investigation is ongoing. Our officers, with the help of a sister force, are currently hunting for the suspects,” Asea said.
Police have urged members of the public with any relevant information to report to the nearest police station, assuring residents that efforts are underway to track down the perpetrators.
“We call for calm as investigations continue,” Asea added.
