Anyakoit throws hat into the ring for Katakwi Woman MP seat
Anyakoit remains resolute, focusing on her campaign for the 2026 general election, combing every village for a vote.
Katakwi: Cecilia Anyakoit, a seasoned Ugandan politician, has once again declared her interest in contesting for the Katakwi District Woman Member of Parliament seat, currently held by Vice President Jessica Alupo Epel.
Anyakoit, known for her perseverance, has been a recurring contender for this seat.
Speaking to journalists at Usuk Senior Secondary School on October 5, 2024, Anyakoit expressed her desire to serve the people of Katakwi and Uganda as a whole.
When asked about competing with the vibrant Alupo, Anyakoit confidently stated that she had previously beaten Alupo in 2011, and although her victory was overturned, she believes she can win with over 70% of the vote in Katakwi District in the 2026 general election.
Anyakoit emphasized that her intention is not to remove the vice presidency from Katakwi, as it’s the president’s prerogative to appoint. Instead, she aims to replace Alupo, who has been assigned heavy duties.
“I don’t want politics of hate and confusion in Katakwi,” Anyakoit noted, referencing the violent elections in 2011 and 2016.
