Another group of 40 remanded over Anti Corruption protests
Another Group of 25 protestors appeared before the Kampala Capital City Hall Court and was also remanded on similar charges.
Kampala: The City Hall and Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Courts have remanded another group of people to Luzira Prison on charges related to their alleged involvement in Anti corruption protests that locked the city on Tuesday.
Several groups of people majority of whom are youth on Tuesday went on the streets with placards demanding for the resignation of the Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon Anita Annet Among whom they accused of being corrupt.
Whereas they protested about corruption in general across the country, placards targeting Speaker Among featured predominantly.
As a result, on Tuesday 54 people were charged and remanded to Luzira by various courts within the city. But more unknown numbers remained under police custody .Consequently, on Wednesday the Police together and with the Prosecutors arraigned before Grade One Magistrate Caroline Kyoshabire a group of 15 people majority of whom were youth and they were charged with common nuisance and remanded on four separate case files.

The 15 remanded by Buganda Road Court are: Jeremiah Kato, an Electrician, Ashiraf Kanunu, a Student at KIU, David Anderson Onyango, a Carpenter, Eddy Kiyaga, a driver , AbdulRahman Kabanda an Intern Doctor, Shabir Abdu Majid, a Timber dealer, Innocent Mutibwa, a Student, Vian Muwonge unemployed and Abdul Bast Najib, a Bakery Attendant.
The others are: Hussein Lubaga, a Clearing Agent and Samuel Okuja, Robert Maseruka, former Guild President of Makerere University, Brian Magala, a businessman , Mugweri Sadat, a Boda Boda rider, Joseph Owino, a Vendor and Eric Muhwezi, a loader at Energy Center.
The Prosecutors are accusing the groups of common nuisance and being idle and disorderly. It is alleged that on July 23rd at Parliament Kampala Central in Kampala District, they obstructed and I convinced the public in exercise of common rights by being rowdy and blocking public walkways
All the accused persons have denied the charges against them except one person who has been advised to change plea in the next session if he so wishes.
For now, all the accused persons have been remanded until July 29th 2024 pending allocation of cases files to different Magistrates. This brings the total of remanded Anti corruption protestors to 94.
