Agago leaders concerned over deteriorating roads in the district
These rains have left many households homeless and continue to pose significant challenges to infrastructure and livelihoods.
Agago: The Agago District Works and Technical Services Department is planning an urgent meeting with the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) to address the worsening condition of roads in the district.
Heavy downpours have caused significant damage, disrupting interdistrict and sub-county movements and hampering business activities.
Hon. Odong Stanley, the Councilor Five for Wol Town Council and the District Secretary for Works and Technical Services, expressed concern over the impact of the recent heavy rains. Flooding has damaged homes, destroyed crops, and severely affected the district’s road network.
Odong highlighted that many roads within the district have been badly damaged, prompting the need for an immediate district road committee meeting with UNRA and Agago’s Members of Parliament.
The aim is to find solutions to the transportation challenges currently faced by businesses trying to reach market destinations.
Odong further explained that the district has used its force-on-account budget to maintain various roads. This includes the installation of culverts and the clearing of water runways on roads such as Olung-Amyel, Adilang-Lacek Oto, Atut-Okwadoko, Kwon Kic-Arum, Agago Bridge-Abone, and Olel-Lacan Onyong.
Agago District has been heavily impacted by annual heavy downpours over the past three years, making it one of the most affected districts in East Acholi.
These rains have left many households homeless and continue to pose significant challenges to infrastructure and livelihoods.
