Acom challenges Minister Adoa’s victory in Serere Woman MP NRM Race
“I am confident that the evidence we have provided will pave the way for justice for the people of Serere, whose rightful victory was unjustly overturned,” she said.
Serere: The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party primaries for Serere District Woman Member of Parliament candidate have taken a dramatic turn as Acom Esther Lucy formally presented substantial evidence of election malpractice and forgery to the NRM tribunal.
Acom’s petition challenges the declaration of Hon. Adoa Hellen, the incumbent Serere District Woman MP and State Minister for Fisheries, as the official NRM flag bearer.
During her tribunal appearance on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, Acom accused Adoa of voting multiple times at different polling stations a serious allegation raising questions about the integrity of the primary elections.
“This manipulation disregards the voice of the people, whose choices should be respected in a democratic process,” Acom declared.
In addition, Acom submitted declaration forms from the 2015 elections, claiming they were incorrectly issued to her polling agents by the Serere District NRM registrar. This issue reportedly led to the arrest of the registrar, William Olir, who faces charges of forgery.
The Grade One Magistrates Court in Serere has remanded Olir to Serere Main Prison pending a hearing scheduled for August 5, 2025.
After the tribunal session, Acom expressed strong confidence in the validity of her case, stressing that the evidence presented highlights significant discrepancies in the election process.
“I am confident that the evidence we have provided will pave the way for justice for the people of Serere, whose rightful victory was unjustly overturned,” she said.
Acom also dismissed claims that she is working with opposition parties, pointing to her past support for Adoa during the 2011 and 2016 campaigns.
“I campaigned vigorously for Adoa under the NRM banner. How could I now be working for the opposition? These allegations are merely attempts to tarnish my reputation within the NRM framework,” she said.
The case has captured the attention of Serere voters who are keenly awaiting the tribunal’s verdict on these serious allegations of electoral misconduct.
