Acholi releases mock results, registers fair improvement

The Acholi Secondary School Examination Committee (ASSEC) was established in 2009 to set, mark, and evaluate performance on internal examinations among secondary schools in the Acholi Subregion.

Kitgum: The Acholi Secondary School Examination Committee (ASSEC) released the results of the mock examinations.

James Olaa, the committee chairperson and headteacher of Rev. Jabulonu Issoke Memorial College, announced that both senior four and six mock results were unveiled at Sacred Heart School in Gulu City, where the majority of the region’s 84 secondary school headteachers were in attendance.

Olaa noted that the senior four results are now rated using the new lower secondary school curriculum, with grades ranging from A, B, C, and D. He confirmed that a total of 4,894 students sat for the senior four mock exams, while 1,023 candidates participated in the senior six mock exams.

He addressed several challenges, including the need for updated textbooks for the new curriculum, issues with electricity, and access to computers. However, he emphasized that ‘A’ level teachers are expected to undergo retraining in preparation for the next academic year.

Olaa remarked that there has been generally fair performance in the ‘O’ level mock examinations, with boys outperforming girls. In contrast, he noted that girls performed better than boys in the ‘A’ level exams, although arts subjects were generally better executed than science subjects.
