Gulu: The former member of parliament for the then Gulu municipality in the 9th parliament, Christopher Acire, say members of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party are demanding the top warring leadership of the FDC Party come and explain to the Acholi subregion what is happening in the party.
The request was aired to Acire during the recent meeting he held with FDC party members in the Acholi subregion over the weekend at his residential home in Gulu city.
Acire revealed the demands of party members during his address to journalists on Monday from the Northern Uganda Media Club in the capacity of FDC presidential envoy.
He says party members have not been explained the origin of the saga in the party, something he says the party members in the Acholi subregion are demanding an examination from the party executive.
According to Acire, the term of office for Hon. Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat, as the FDC party president, expired in October 2020, but due to a coronavirus outbreak, his term in office was extended until October 6, 2023.
Acire further says that according to the FDC electoral road map, the party was to carry out the election of the party structure at the grassroots level between June and August 2023, but only five districts in Acholi participated in the election of their party leadership, and four districts did not participate.
According to Acire, the district that did not participate in the election was influenced by some of the members of parliament from Acholi, whom he alleged were siding with the faction of Dr. Kizza Besigye Kifeefe, the Katonga faction.
The districts that did not participate in the FDC party structure election were Amuru, Gulu, Kitgum, and Gulu City.
According to Acire, the district that did not carry out the election currently has no leadership because their term of office has expired.
Odong Justine Obiya, the newly elected FDC chairperson for Omoro district, asked the members of the FDC party to remain calm, saying the issues in the party are going to be addressed.
Meanwhile, attempts to get comments from some members of parliament from Acholi, who are alleged to be lining up with the Katonga faction, were futile, as many of them did not answer their repeated calls.
These members include Aol Betty Ocan, Woman MP Gulu City and Onekalit Denis Amere, MP Kitgum Municipality.
Acholi subregion has six members of parliament in the 11 parliaments elected under the FDC ticket.
