Masindi: The Grade I court in Masindi district has remanded a Rwandan national to Masindi government prison on allegation of sodomizing 12 young boys.
The court presided over by Magistrate Selsa Biwaga yesterday remanded Kolode Nzabonimba, 50, a resident of Myeba village in Kimengo Sub County, till October 17, 2024, when he will appear in court.
Biwaga told the court that her court does not have powers to entertain such a case, adding that it is only the chief magistrate court that handles such cases, thus remanding the suspect.
Magistrate Biwaga did not allow the suspect to say anything due to the nature of the case and the court handling the matter as per the law.
Police in Kimengo arrested Kolode, a Rwandan national but staying in Myeba village, for allegedly sodomizing 12 young boys aged 3–9 years.
The suspect was working as a casual laborer on one of the farms in Kimengo Sub County near the victim’s homes.
Annette Karamagi, the probation and welfare officer in Masindi district, said the suspect allegedly sodomized the children in the absence of their parents after luring them with petty cash and gifts.
She also noted that the suspect allegedly committed the acts in a small hut and in the bush near a water dam.
Karamagi appeals to parents and guardians to take care of their children and protect them from sexual predators, emphasizing the need to focus on the security of both the boy and girl child.
