Gulu-Nimule highway accident claims one

Gulu: Police at Elegu Border Police Station are investigating a tragic accident that claimed the life of a 7-year-old child.

According to ASP Ongom David Mudong, the Aswa West Police Spokesperson, the driver of motor vehicle registration number KBP 600A/ZD 0643, a Mercedes Benz Actros, identified as Issa Adan Ismail, was traveling from Eldoret, Kenya, to Juba, South Sudan.

Upon reaching Bibia, he collided with an oncoming motorcycle registration number, UFM 052Z, that was headed from Elegu to Gulu.

Mudong stated that the motorcycle rider, Guma Richard, sustained serious injuries. Tragically, a 7-year-old pupil from Adonia Nursery and Primary School in Bibia who was a passenger on the motorcycle died on the spot.

The truck was later intercepted at the Elegu weighbridge.

Following the accident, local youths blocked the road with stones near Elegu Primary School and threw stones at a Friendship Coach bus, causing damage to the vehicle.

Mudong confirmed that two suspects connected to the malicious damage to the bus have been apprehended and detained at Elegu Police Station.

Both the truck and the motorcycle are currently parked at the Elegu police yard pending inspection, and the driver is on PF94 as further inquiries continue.
