Kiryandongo implements parish training center model to boost farmer skills
“The PDM must reach everyone across all programs and sectors. This initiative will empower communities with vital information and enhance the visibility of government efforts,” he declared.
Kiryabdongo: Kiryandongo District has embarked on an ambitious initiative to strengthen agricultural productivity and wealth creation through the Parish Training Center (PTC) model. The centers will provide hands-on training for farmers in good agronomic practices and serve as vital hubs for extension services, business development, financial literacy, and advisory support.
Speaking to district staff, Deo Kabugo, the Deputy CAO directed all technical officers to align their work plans with the Parish Development Model (PDM), a government-driven strategy aimed at fostering community-level wealth creation. He emphasized the importance of punctuality and consistent attendance at work and meetings, describing discipline as a key foundation for effective service delivery.
Meanwhile, Dr. Kajura Charles, the District Production Officer of Hoima, called for total commitment from all departmental heads and section leaders to ensure the successful rollout of all seven pillars of the PDM. He urged staff to familiarize themselves with the customized results framework to better support Parish Development Committees (PDCs) in executing their roles.
Dr. Kajura also underscored the urgency of launching and commissioning the disbursement of PDM funds to beneficiaries and closely monitoring their progress.
“We must proactively establish and oversee practical training centers, providing unwavering support to beneficiaries from the moment they receive funding until they harvest and sell their produce,” he stated.
Jonathan Akweteireho, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner, commended Kiryandongo for successfully implementing the PDM over the past four years despite several challenges. He, however, cautioned parish chiefs against engaging in practices that could derail the program.
Akweteireho stressed the need for pillar heads to extend their implementation strategies to the parish level to ensure that every community member understands and benefits from the PDM.
“The PDM must reach everyone across all programs and sectors. This initiative will empower communities with vital information and enhance the visibility of government efforts,” he declared.
