Two killed over theft in Buliisa, Masindi
Adong was caught and beaten to death, while his accomplice escaped.
Masindi: Police in the Albertine North Region are investigating two separate cases of mob justice that led to the deaths of two suspected thieves in Masindi and Buliisa districts on Sunday night.
According to Damalie Nachuha, the Regional Police Commander (RPC) for Albertine North, the first incident occurred in Masindi District, where a suspected robber, Fred Isingoma, a resident of Kakwese Cell, Nyangahya Division, was killed by a mob at Kinenabuhere Trading Centre in Bwijanga Sub-county.
RPC Nachuha told the press on Monday that Isingoma, along with two unidentified accomplices, was allegedly riding motorcycle UFX 199V and robbing people on their way home.
One of the victims reportedly raised an alarm and mobilized local residents, who pursued and attacked the suspects. Isingoma was caught and beaten to death, while his accomplices escaped.
His body was taken to Masindi Hospital Mortuary for postmortem, and the motorcycle was impounded at Masindi Central Police Station.
Nachuha strongly condemned both the criminal behavior of the suspects and the mob action, urging the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands and instead report incidents to the police. She also advised people to work hard for their livelihood rather than resort to theft.
In the second incident in Buliisa District, another suspected thief, David Adong, aged 28 and a resident of Kayongo Cell in Biiso Town Council, was killed by a mob after being caught attempting to steal a goat.
According to police, Adong and an unidentified accomplice were using motorcycle UFT 444T when they were spotted by residents. As they attempted to flee, the community gave chase. Adong was caught and beaten to death, while his accomplice escaped.
RPC Nachuha noted that Adong’s mother had previously warned him to abandon his criminal lifestyle, as he was known in the area as a habitual thief.
Police in both districts have opened investigations into the incidents.
